Summer Activities 2020

In order to promote the intercultural exchange between luxembourgish residents and refugees, Mir wëllen iech ons Heemecht weisen, in collaboration with the local company  am Gronn , organized 6 workshops animated by professional and local designers, in the Pétrusse Valley. Starting from mid july, each week, another workshop took place in the scenery of the Pétrusse and welcomed refugees from different homes as well as residents from all ages to participate and get creative.

During the first workshop, the participants learned how to create their own macrame potholder. Guided by the designer, they tried several braiding techniques and could leave with they finished potholder and a plant of their choice.

The second workshop was a family friendly event where kids and adults created their own travel diary, including the invention and illustration of a story.

Then followed a monoprinting workshop done with natural objects: after a stroll through the Pétrusse Valley where participants picked flowers, leaves, wood sticks etc, they created a notebook filled with natural prints.

The natural prints on clay workshop included a walk through the Valley where participants had to look out for flowers and branches they would like to engrave in their clay objects. The final results showed beautifully decorated coasters and cutting boards out of clay with floral prints, and many dirty hands 🙂

For the more sporty ones, a BMX workshop was held in the Skate parc. Youngsters and kids learned some tricks on a BMX and got shown, by the more experienced riders, how to use the pipes.

The last workshop was a collaboration of all participants: During the workshop they had to imagine and draw several personas, then integrate the personas in a story invented by the group, and finally, with the help of the designer, they saw their own creations get animated on the wall of a building in the Pétrusse.

The workshops were a great success and brought together people of different backgrounds and ages. We would especially like to thank Ville de Luxembourg for their support during this project.
